Honeymoon Inspiration – Thailand

We celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary in a few days time and it got me thinking about our wedding day and honeymoon.

Deciding a honeymoon destination was really tricky for us. You’re looking at the entire globe and asking yourself – Where would we like to go?! There are so many options!

After going through our first consultation in Trail Finders we realized we had to narrow it down.  They really do need to know what part of the world you want to go to before they can really start to assist you.

We decided on Thailand and we had the most amazing honeymoon! I thought I’d share where we went for anyone that’s considering a honeymoon to Thailand.

We spent our first week in The Sarojin Resort, Thailand, a five star luxury boutique beach resort located in Khao Lak, Phang Nga, Thailand, near Phuket. It was absolutely outstanding! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and we felt at home straight away. We had a beautiful ‘Garden Residence’ which opened out onto a garden fringed terrace and private Thai lounge area which looks out onto The Sarojin’s tropical garden setting.

The bathroom was class in our room. It was set up with beautiful smooth stones all over the floor in a garden setting so you felt like you were outside! It had a lovely couples’ bath, and rainfall and adjustable showers. On our first night it was very romantic as they had set up tea lights for us!

A highlight of the week for us was the all day breakfast. Served from 6am to 6pm, no matter what time of the day you wake you can enjoy an all you can eat breakfast at the Ficus Restaurant. We ate each morning out on the terrace with a view of the lotus pond and enjoyed spying on the local Monitor Lizard!

There was loads to choose from at breakfast! Muesli, fresh fruit, apple and cinnamon compote, porridge or something more indulgent; eggs any style, Thai omelette, corn fritters or french toast and pancakes. There are freshly squeezed juices, various teas and coffee or you can get into holiday mode with a glass of sparkling wine!<img class=”aligncenter wp-image-1180″ title=”dining-gallery-44″ src=”×683 web link.jpg” alt=”” width=”819″ height=”546″ srcset=”×683.jpg 1024w,×200.jpg 300w, 1400w” sizes=”(max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px” />

A major highlight at the Sarojin for us was a private dining experience set up down on the beach front. It was like something out of a movie! We were blown away by all the tea lights set in the sand and hung with flowers from the overhanging tree. We had our own chef for the night and enough food to feed six people. It was outstanding and I would highly recommend indulging in this once in a lifetime experience. It’s what honeymoons are made for!

If you have something else in mind they have a dedicated ‘Imagineer’, who tailor-makes activities ‘just for 2’: Dine by a waterfall, go diving at sunrise or drink champagne after bamboo rafting jungle rapids. Whatever your heart desires can be planned and priced!

The swimming pool is fabulous. It has three gorgeous decking areas with sun loungers where you can sun bathe and drink cocktails to your hearts content. We thought that it be far to busy in the resort to actually get to use them but we had two days by the pool perched up there which was lovely. The pool was very relaxing and it was not very busy which was a nice surprise!

We took a sunset cruise aboard The Lady Sarojin speed boat with delicious canapes and cocktails. It was a fabulous trip and we got to meet other couples in our small group. It was a great night and we were so full from the never ending supply of canapes that we skipped dinner that night!

The Sarojin is surrounded by white sand and Khao Sok National Park’s rainforests. It’s only an hour from the Similan Islands, one of the world’s top 10 dive sites, so we took a day trip to see the sights. I went snorkeling for the first time ever and we got to explore a few of the islands. It was great day out and there are various trips like this that you can book through the hotel.

We also took a trip down to Khao Lak two of the seven days we were there. It was nice to get out of the hotel and to experience the local life. Eating out locally was so inexpensive and the food was fantastic!

We could not recommend the Sarojin more highly if you are looking for the real luxury honeymoon experience. It was outstanding from start to finish. We did find it a little on the expensive side but we expected that. A great tip is to wander up the beach front every second evening to dine in the many hotels that neighbour the Sarojin. The food is excellent and incredibly good value so we were guilt free when dining out on the expensive nights knowing that we had not splashed out the night before.
